About TensorOpt

Independent retrieval diagnostics for vertical AI startups and mid-market e-commerce brands.

What TensorOpt does

TensorOpt is an independent retrieval diagnostics practice serving two verticals: vertical AI startups running a RAG product, and mid-market e-commerce brands on Shopify Plus or Adobe Commerce. Each engagement produces a fixed-fee, time-boxed written deliverable: a retrieval audit and judgment set for AI startups, or an independent NDCG@10 and conversion-correlated relevance measurement for e-commerce. The methodology is anchored in Designing Hybrid Search Systems(Leanpub). The same hybrid retrieval, reranking, and evaluation framework used in the published book is what the audit operationalizes against a client's pipeline.

Laszlo Csontos

Founder, TensorOpt

I am the author of Designing Hybrid Search Systems (Leanpub) and the forthcoming Measuring Search. My practitioner background is in production hybrid search, embeddings, cross-encoder reranking, and retrieval evaluation. Previously: production search at scale at a prior platform role, spanning embeddings, hybrid fusion, and taxonomy inference. I run TensorOpt as the consulting practice that operationalizes the published methodology on client pipelines.

Why it exists

Search and RAG vendors publish their own evaluation results; that is structurally conflicted. In-house IR engineering is not a continuous headcount line at 5-30 person AI teams or at $20M to $200M GMV e-commerce brands, which means there is no standing internal function producing independent retrieval metrics. The published-pricing $7,500-$9,500 fixed-fee diagnostic SKU, small enough to clear founder or VP signature authority in 24-72 hours and large enough to fund a real engagement, is a gap no published SKU in the search consulting market currently fills. TensorOpt fills it.

What stays internal

The engagement runbook (judgment-set construction templates, bootstrap-CI tooling, the per-vertical evaluation harness) is engagement IP and stays inside the practice. The published book covers the methodology in full; the audit operationalizes it on the client pipeline, with the runbook as the delivery vehicle. Clients receive the written report, the judgment set, and the methodology; the internal tooling that produces them remains internal.

How to engage

Either book a 30-minute discovery call or review the sample reports first.
